March 17 2020 was the last day we saw patients and closed our office due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It feels like so long ago and at the same time it feels like time went by so quickly. The beginning of the shut down was very trying. There was no real guidance or knowledge about this virus. The information came out that it was an airborne virus. News services started running stories about the amount of aerosols in a dental office. I attended countless hours of continuing education learning about what can be done mitigate any danger to my patients, team, and family. Dentistry is such a vital part to overall health I wanted to be in contact with my patients to educate them and reassure them. I sent out weekly videos updating patients on any useful information I could find. I had some light hearted videos about painting the office. Through my own research I found our air filtration system, moleKule, our highly efficient intra oral suction, isolite. I devised a safety protocol and screening system. I found and secured the necessary PPE for my team. I filmed a safety protocol video highlighting everything that we have in place. We were "allowed" to open in May but I delayed opening until June 1. I am so grateful and thankful for my amazing team who stuck by me and I am so grateful and thankful for all of our amazing patients! Fast forward to 2021 the entire team is vaccinated. Our safety protocols work. There was no transmission from our office to patients or team members. PPE works! The safety precautions with have in place will remain. More and more patients are coming to the office having been vaccinated. This has been an odysey but we have made it through. We are now stronger and more reslient than ever! Please do not neglect your dental health. We are here for out patients in a healthy, safe setting.
